Of the four ladies on our Bride Blogger Team, Renee is the only one who has already said “I Do!” She will be providing retrospective on her planning process, focusing a lot on her DIY efforts and planning stressors. Today she’s sharing two things to consider when choosing a photographer, along with the product of that overwhelming decision-making process – her gorgeous real wedding gallery from Azena Photography!
From the Bride:
Looking back at our wedding photos still gives me butterflies, our special day was captured perfectly. When I started looking for a photographer I was pretty overwhelmed, there were so many to choose from with great reviews. After much research, we chose Hillary Schave with Azena Photography. We met with her several times before our wedding to get the details worked out and to become comfortable with one another. Looking back on the process of choosing a photographer, I would highly recommend you keep the following tips in mind.
Choose a Photographer with a Second Shooter
When we first met with Hillary she said she was going to have an assistant photographer at our wedding. I never really thought we would need more than one person capturing our day but I’m so glad we did. Our getting ready photos are some of my absolute favorite, and looking back at them there was not a single moment missed because Hillary was capturing the girls and her assistant was capture the guys. Another time I was super glad to have two photographers is when Scott and I went out on the golf course with Hillary for some stunning sunset photos. While we were taking these Hillary’s assistant was able to capture moments of everyone mingling at the dinner tables and dancing the night away.
Have Your Photographer Come Early
We weren’t exactly sure how many hours to book Hillary for but we ended up choosing the 8 hour package. When planning out the time as to when Hillary would arrive I was surprised she wanted to be at the church, but since she’s the expert we trusted her opinion. And she was absolutely correct. Since she was at the church when we arrived she was able to get pictures of my dress hanging, our rings in flowers, and the wedding party chatting. She was then able to capture some heartwarming pictures of my mom and sister helping me get into my dress and Scott and his groomsmen getting all suited up. I cherish these getting ready photos with my family. Because we had Hillary start the day early, she only captured about a half hour of the dance (after the first dances). But to be honest a half hour of people throwing their hands up on the dance floor is long enough. They are really great and I get a kick out of them but I don’t think we needed her any longer on the dance floor. Plus several friends and family took great pictures while we were all dancing.
I hope these tips help while you are working on all your choices when it comes to picking the right photographer. Take a look at our wedding album and let me know if you have any questions while going through them, I’d be happy to answer any questions!
