Today, Bride Blogger Michelle is sharing creative ways to propose to your bridesmaids! We love her sweet ideas and wonder – how did you pop the question to your bridesmaids or men?
I’m not exactly sure when proposing to your bridesmaids became such a big deal, but I have a feeling it happened around the advent of Instagram. Having a pretty card, box, or creative favor along with asking your girls to stand by your side is practically expected at this point. Some might say it is too much, but I’m here to tell you differently.
Remember, you are asking a lot of these ladies. Planning the shower, attending the bachelorette party and spending the whole wedding weekend with you is not only a large time commitment but also an emotional and financial commitment. Make sure that your girls know how appreciative you are from the start with a little something to make them feel extra special. And a quick disclaimer: special and expensive are not the same thing! A little effort on your bridesmaid proposals and an accompanying hand written note will go a long way and will likely be treasured by your ladies long after your nuptials.
If you’ve ever searched “Bridesmaid Proposal” on Pinterest or Etsy (your new BFFs ever since you got engaged) you have probably seen many boxes filled with goodies waiting to be gifted to future bridesmaids. These are pretty popular right now and for good reason- they show a lot of effort on your part and they also look great! You can find pretty boxes at most craft stores and fill them with a little tissue paper and possibly confetti if you’re feeling extra creative about the whole thing.
Your box could have a little spa theme, wine theme, movie theme or really anything that you feel they would love! A little chocolate, mini bottle of wine and lip gloss always works well too and who wouldn’t love that?! My best friend is getting married the same year as me and her bridesmaid boxes included a Ring Pop which I loved (don’t tell me that you don’t miss those just a little bit!).
Puns are my absolute favorite and if you agree with me, this is a GREAT time to use them. I donut want to get married without you by my side. Peas be my bridesmaid. Bee my bridesmaid. Whale you be my bridesmaid? Will you be my bridesmermaid? The list goes on. You can find lots of punny cards on Etsy and pair them with the pun for a little extra something (maybe don’t give your friend a bag of frozen peas though). Below is an example of mixing the pun example and the box idea together, which is how I proposed to my bridesmaids. I paired a donut from my favorite local bakery with coffee grounds in a cute container to fill out the box and create a bit of a vibe.
Another route you could take is giving them something along the lines of an everyday item made special. This is a perfect option if you or your ladies like things to be functional. Hair ties strung onto a pretty piece of card stock that says “Will you help me tie the knot?” is both functional and cute! I found a great coffee mug that had “Will you be my maid of honor?” written in small letters at the bottom of the mug, and actually used this to ask my maid of honor last summer!
She came over for coffee and breakfast and that time we shared together was not only meaningful, but it was also so fun surprising her as she finished her coffee. She has been my best friend for over 15 years so I had to catch her off guard because she probably knew it was coming anyways! Personalized wine glasses or water bottles would be another great option here too!
Simple and sweet is timeless and never goes out of style. If nothing else, write a nice card and be sure that no matter what you do, give your girls your wedding date in writing! Cheers to getting your creative pants on and surprising your nearest and dearest.
