From the photographer – Astrid Thomson Photography: What a fun couple to take pictures of. They were very relaxed and fun to be with. We shot Ryan and Katie’s engagement session downtown and at the Union at the end of July. These two will be getting married at St. Bernard Catholic Church on December 15th.
From the Bride-to-Be: While attending college at Minnesota State University Mankato I took a mass media class. In the class of over 300 students I chose my seat carefully. I wanted to be in the middle to the right just close enough to where I could see, but far enough away that if I wasn’t paying attention it wasn’t glaringly obvious. As I took my just right spot I looked to my right; sitting there was without a doubt the most handsome man I have ever seen in my life. He was wearing headphones and was slumped down as far in his chair as possible trying to avoid all that he could. His tattoos, hat, and rugged handsomeness were too much to ignore, so I of course went and introduced myself. From that point on I always sat next to this mysterious man with the thousand yard stare. After a while we became friends and I grew to realize there was just something about him that I needed more of.
However, we were both involved with other people. After a year of being friends and then another year of not speaking with each other I got a random call. This call came at a time in my life when my ex and I were breaking up and I was feeling a bit lost. Unknowingly, he was going through the exact same thing. We got together one night and realized the spark between us never went away. That night I told him, “If I had a man like you I would never let you go”. That mysterious man from mass media is now my fiance. We have been together for four years and cannot wait to start our lives together as man and wife.
We will be getting married in Madison, Wisconsin on December 15th. Why December 15th? That is the anniversary of his deceased grandparents, it is our small tribute to their wonderful life together. We are also having a traditional marine corps wedding and are cutting our cake with his other deceased grandfather’s saber from his time in the marines. We can think of no better way to start our life by remembering those who came before us.
