ANiU Salon’s Bridal Beauty Checklist recommends checking in with your fiancé two months before the big day to be sure his hair and brows are looking good! ANiU offers a range of services for grooms including haircuts, haircolor, straight-razor shaves, brow waxing, facials, massages, manicures, and pedicures. Establishing a relationship with a barber early in the planning process will help your guy look his best and feel most confident.
Prior to their wedding, Bride Blogger Keri’s fiancé Rob visited ANiU Salon for a cut, shave and manicure to get ready for the big day.
“Heading into the appointment I was excited. I typically view getting a haircut as more of a chore than something I enjoy to do. I was nervous about the manicure and I did not know what to expect” Rob shared. “I was blown away by the entire experience. Zach did an amazing job. During the straight razor shave, he took his time to make sure it was done correctly and I was amazed by the results. Regarding the haircut I only needed to give him a few words on how my hair is typically cut and then his creative genius took over. I can honestly say it’s one of the best haircuts I have had in a very long time. I had to make an appointment to see Zach one week prior to my wedding because I know he will have my hair looking great and that will bring me confidence on our big day!”
So who is this amazing Zach, you ask?! He is ANiU Salon’s Barbering and Men’s Grooming Educator. He travels throughout the Midwest as a recently-appointed Scumbassador for Reuzel, Inc, and is well versed in the Reuzel Barbering techniques and is certified in Advanced Creative Men’s Haircutting from Vidal Sassoon. He is currently training staff for a new barbershop, Blue Chip Barber Club, that will open in Madison, WI in 2018.
Today, Zach is sharing barbering expertise for the grooms-to-be!

In recent years our culture has seen a resurgence in men’s grooming. Pop culture has embraced traditions of barbering from years past. This in turn has created a new twist on the “old school” ways while still staying true to the art of barbering.
I take my craft very seriously and view what I do as an art. When it comes to men’s grooming, as barbers, we create something visually detailed. It’s important to look your best – it’s amazing what that does to one’s psyche. I can’t express how important the experience we create for our patrons is. Whether it is on that special day or every day, the experience of that visit is everything. From the feel that we create in our environment through visual and sound to every interaction – this is the key to it all.
When it comes to special occasions, whether it is a wedding or a graduation or any other important event it is important to put it all together. The gents shave and haircut are key elements to making that happen.
Timing on this is critical to have the most finished look possible, but this is also a matter of preference. For those gentlemen that want the most polished look possible, a day of service is what I would recommend. This allows for the cleanest look. However, some patrons prefer to have their haircut look as if it has not been just cut that day. If this is the case, a week or two at max before the event would be ideal. Regardless of haircut timing, I always recommend a fresh shave day of.
Expert Insight on Products
Appropriate shaving products are a must for performing the proper shave. Most people only consider shaving cream and a razor. However, there is so much more involved in what barbers would consider a complete shave.
At the bare minimum I recommend:
- A gentle cleanser before shaving.
- A shave prep. (There are many different shave oils on the market for this)
- Shaving cream to provide the appropriate amount of glide for the razor passing over the gents skin. Not to mention it smells super soft yet masculine. (In my opinion Reuzel Shaving Cream is the best.)
- After shave. Reuzel After Shave will cool and calm the gents skin while providing an effervescence that will be reminiscent of a true barbershop experience. The trademark Reuzel tonic blend of witch hazel, horsetail root, nettle leaf, and rosemary will nourish, calm and freshen the skin during and after the shaving ritual.
Assessing your patron’s hair is pertinent in recommending the appropriate hair product. Everyone needs a shampoo and conditioner that will provide cleansing and nourishing agents. Reuzel Daily Shampoo & Daily Conditioner are just what’s needed. The Daily Shampoo cleanses the hair while not stripping away natural oils with the hair itself. Reuzel Daily Conditioner provides essential moisture after cleansing. Both products contain the same herbal blend of Witch Hazel, Nettle Leaf, Horsetail Root & Rosemary leaving the hair clean, refreshed, & of course nourished. If there is any product build up within the hair Reuzel Scrub Shampoo will do the trick. The scrub shampoo and the daily shampoo also double as body exfoliate and wash.
Reuzel provides an array of different pomades to fit the needs of any gentleman. Two matte, two water soluble, and two oil based. As a barber that cares for my patrons needs, I would assess the hair type and obviously recommend the pomade that would fit.
Reuzel also offers 2 hair tonics. The Grooming Tonic provides soft control and moisture while providing excellent volume when heat activated. The Hair Tonic has a nice cooling effect when worked into the scalp providing moisture and just a touch of hold
The proper hair product will accentuate the detail, work and love put into any cut and style created.
In the case of a fella who sports a beard or any form of facial hair Reuzel offers Beard Foam and Beard Balm. Beard foam is perfect for shaping, taming, and moisturizing a gent’s facial hair while also providing a deodorizing benefit. Reuzel Beard Balm is a concentrated formula that provides excellent moisture and shaping to facial hair. Used together the 2 products promote the ultimate in softness for any facial hair type.
