Dustin & Michelle’s sunset engagement session at Picnic Point and Union Terrace beautifully captures the essense of their love story. A toast to the happy couple!
How We Met:
Somehow we grew up exactly 15.5 miles from each other but didn’t actually cross paths until we both got accepted into University of Wisconsin Madison’s Nursing Program. During the last semester of the two year program we began seeing more of each other as our friend groups started overlapping. It wasn’t until the very last week of the semester that our entire program took a trip to a Brewers game and we really hit it off though.
The next week we graduated and I found myself leaving graduation wondering if anything would come of this very new relationship that was forming between Dustin and I. At that moment I spun around because someone was yelling my name and running down the street to catch me! Dustin had left his own family and friends to come chase me down for a quick picture in our graduation best. I was absolutely shocked in the very best way at that moment. We went on our first date soon after at The Tipsy Cow and we quickly knew that something was different and incredibly great about the bond we were starting to form.
Our Proposal Story:
Dustin has always been wonderful at surprising the people he loves in his life, and his proposal was no exception. You might call me crazy, but I literally had NO IDEA that it was coming. We had been dating for close to three years and Dustin was in the thick of studying for his graduate school entrance exam in May of 2017. Dustin told me that he wanted to take me to Devil’s Lake (a spot where we had one of our first dates) to make up for the fact that he had been so busy studying lately and this seemed incredibly reasonable to me. We went to the store and got everything for a nice picnic and Dustin was acting very normal, not like a guy who is nervous about proposing to the woman of his dreams. After we had settled into the perfect picnic spot, Dustin pulled a small book out of his pocket titled “What I Love About You”. Again, he stated that this was to show me how much he appreciated the love and support I had given him throughout his intense studying for his exam. And of course, this seemed incredibly reasonable to me. The book had fill in the blank sentences and I read it slowly and savored every moment. On the last page, the sentence read “I am so lucky that I ______”. Dustin had filled the blank in with “get to spend forever with you” and I got the biggest flood of butterflies in my stomach. Dustin then suddenly had a small black box and diamond ring in his hand and asked me to marry him! I of course said yes!
What Makes Us the Perfect Match?
Dustin and I are the perfect amount of the old phrase “opposites attract”. We have fairly different interests and opinions at times but we make it work because we care so deeply for one another. We love spending time with each other even if it means an activity that isn’t necessarily one we would choose on our our. Dustin has been to a Taylor Swift concert and watched countless hours of HGTV with me and I have actually thoroughly enjoyed the golf outings and sporting events that I have gone to with him!
What is the Best Part About Wedding Planning?
If you ask just about anyone who knows we well, they would label me as a planner. I can barely go anywhere without my agenda book and creating the best day of our lives has been a planner girl’s dream come true! My favorite part is deciding on details that I feel will make the day uniquely our own. Some small examples of how I am doing this is incorporating a family recipe into our day, sharing stories and pictures of us in unique ways around our venue, and writing our own vows.
