Keri is our uber-organized bride blogger! But planning is not all details and spreadsheets… let’s not forget the wonderfully difficult decision to choose a honeymoon location. Depending on time, stress levels and comfort trip planing, some brides choose to work with a travel agent and others book their own trip online.
If you plan to work with a travel agent, LMW Featured Vendors Plans in Paradise and Vacation Designers can help you plan the trip of a lifetime. If you are more likely to research and book online, today’s article is for you! Keri is sharing tips and travel app to help you plan.
Your honeymoon is supposed to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the wedding process! What better way to kick off your married life than to jet off to an exotic location with the love of your life? Don’t let the honeymoon planning process stress you out too much. Instead, just focus on what matters – celebrating this occasion with your new spouse.
From the mini-moon to a buddy-moon, the idea of what a honeymoon is (or can be) is changing. As a couple, you have the permission to plan the trip that you want to have. And thankfully, traveling has become more flexible and cost-effective. There is no set rule to go to certain places for certain occasions – you can have a romantic trip to Hawaii or Paris, an adventure in Africa or New Zealand, a Northern Lights trip in Iceland, or a mini-moon in northern Wisconsin.
Rob and I will be honeymooning for two weeks to New Zealand and Fiji at the end of January! We picked those locations for a few reasons:
- Since we are getting married in the winter we wanted to honeymoon to a location that was warm!
- We wanted to find a balance of adventure/exploring with some rest and relaxation. We thought New Zealand (adventure) and Fiji (beach/relaxing) will provide that experience.
- We wanted to pick a location that would be a once-in-a-lifetime trip for our honeymoon.
- We found a great deal on Groupon for flights and hotels.
Below are some of the best online travel tools I have found while planning our honeymoon:
Choosing a Destination and Time
Choosing your dream honeymoon destination can be difficult, especially if your partner has a different travel style than you. Consider a honeymoon that offers a compromise of at least two different travel experiences (beach/relaxation, adventure, food and drink, etc). A few great resources I found to determine the best time to travel to certain locations are:
Luckily, thanks to the new discount airlines, some of the exotic vacations you might only have dreamed of can now become a reality. If your travel location and dates are flexible, follow www.thriftytraveler.com on social media and sign up for their newsletter. They post deeply-discounted airline tickets to locations around the globe. If you have specific locations or travel dates, I would recommend bookmarking through www.momondo.com and/or www.skyscanner.com to find the cheapest airline tickets.
What To Do Once You’re There
One of the best travel apps out there is the TripScout App. The TripScout App provides users with a local and authentic self-guided tour of cities across the globe. They have numerous guides that you can download that provide narrated audio, GPS map, and location recommendations. You can navigate a city (offline!) while still learning about the history and culture of that location.
Staying Organized While Traveling
If you are booking a honeymoon with flights, you will likely want to keep all your documents organized in one place. The app TripIt provides just that. It is an online document holder for your passport, boarding passes, etc. It also provides a new function that tells you when to leave for the airport based on traffic and security lines.
Let me know what travel hacks you have found! When you are planning your honeymoon, above all else, remember this important piece of advice: This is not the last trip you are ever going to take! Happy Planning!
