Love, Madison Weddings Featured Expert, Stephanee Hughson of Plans in Paradise, is both a wedding planner and travel agent. As an agent she specializes in destination weddings and honeymoons, and today we kick off a four week travel series with our travel expert! In the coming weeks we’ll cover honeymoon FAQs, travel recommendations in the United States, spotlight her favorite all-inclusive resorts and end with a GIVEAWAY!
If you’re currently planning a honeymoon, you have probably been seeking answers to some of the frequently asked questions below. Stephanee shares insight to help make post-wedding travel as stress-free as possible!
Should I take a honeymoon right away or wait awhile?
Escape together right away! Otherwise you may not ever go. It’s awesome to get away right after your wedding so you can enjoy your first few day/weeks of marriage solely as a couple and unwind from your busy schedules.
Can I go somewhere tropical without a passport?
Definitely! Florida, California and Hawaii are great US getaways with beautiful beaches. The Virgin Islands (St. John, St. Croix and St. Thomas) and Puerto Rico also allow you to adventure without getting a passport.
If we decide to leave the country the day after our wedding, what name do I put on my passport?
Since you have to apply for your passport at least 6-8 weeks prior to travel, you’ll want to use your current last name as you won’t have time to change it with the government before you depart. Once you return from your trip, you can complete the necessary name change documents, as well as update your passport within the first year after your name change for no additional fee.
What are the most popular honeymoon destinations?
The Caribbean and Mexico are my most requested, such as Jamaica, Punta Cana, and Riviera Maya. Europe and Australia are becoming more popular also. Some people who want to go all out will book overwater bungalows in the South Pacific.
What is all-inclusive?
All-inclusive resorts are properties (mainly in the Mexico and the Caribbean) that include your drinks, food and most activities. These properties offer adults only areas, scuba diving, snorkeling, gourmet a la carte restaurants and premium spirits. These properties make your honeymoon less stressful because you pay one price up front and then eat and drink all you want!
What are a few of the best honeymoon all-inclusive resorts?
Couples properties in Jamaica, Riu Resorts all throughout the Caribbean, Secrets properties in Mexico, Panama, Punta Cana, and Costa Rica, and there are several others. As a travel agent, I will ask you questions to best qualify you for a certain destination and resort chain.
What are the benefits of booking my honeymoon through a travel agent?
As your travel agent, I will help you find the perfect trip, do all the booking, am available to you before, during and after your trip to ensure all goes smoothly, and I will do my best to get you extra perks when possible. I have traveled extensively so I can give you first hand knowledge for many destinations and resorts.
What about a honeymoon registry?
Absolutely! I offer a honeymoon registry so your guests can make a donation toward your honeymoon as a gift!
Can you help me with suggestions for restaurants, excursions, etc?
You bet! I can give you recommendations on restaurants to enjoy in your chosen destination as well as fun, exciting excursions to experience. I have participated in several excursions throughout the world as well as I am a foodie so I can offer great suggestions for restaurants, pubs, and a la carte dining experiences.
