From the Bride: Brooks and I met the first day of college at The University of Minnesota – Duluth in 2011. Our professor had us go around the room, introduce ourselves, and tell where we were from. Brooks came up to me after class and said that he and his family own a resort in my hometown and he would love to get my number to catch a ride on the weekends I go home—smooth! We started talking more and more and hit things off really quickly. We were inseparable since that first day and made things official after a few weeks. People always ask what that “one” moment was I knew we were in love, and I have to say there isn’t one moment because there were so many moments. We clicked from the beginning and I truly feel that we were meant to be in that exact classroom at that exact moment. We couldn’t have imagined our college years without each other. Duluth, MN became a really important place to us, especially once we moved away after graduation. Duluth is where we met, grew our love, and share so many memories.
Fast forward nearly five years from that first day (September 3rd, 2016)—Brooks and I spent Labor Day Weekend visiting Duluth. We woke up that morning to see the beautiful sunrise over Lake Superior. I asked Brooks to take a photo with me with the sunrise in the background. He insisted we take a new one because his “hood was up”. When I set the 10 second timer to re-take it, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him (and we got it on camera!). It was the happiest moment of my existence, and it happened in our favorite place, with our crazy pup, and with an incredible sunrise in the background that felt like it was created specifically for that moment.
Then the wedding planning started! We booked our wedding for August 19th, 2017 at a brand new venue—The Fields Reserve in Stoughton, WI. When we booked with them, they didn’t even have a hole in the ground, so it was a huge risk! But, they finished it in time and it turned out to be the venue of our dreams! We did 99.9% of the planning ourselves and created nearly every decoration and sign ourselves. It was a lot of work and took a lot of patience, but our day couldn’t have been more perfect! And although getting married in Duluth would have made for the perfect love story, we found a way to incorporate our favorite place anyhow—with a live feed of the Duluth Aerial Bridge in the background of our reception barn to remind us of where it all started. It was the perfect day, with so many great memories leading up to it.
