From the bride: Bob was my client when I worked in real estate in Chicago. I thought he was adorable and sweet, and I made the first move by Facebook friend requesting him (naturally) when he we were no longer working together. He and I just fit together, easy going, and happy. He was the first guy to play a little hard to get with me, I liked that, and he intrigued me.
He met me at Montrose Harbor in Chicago after I had just run about 5 miles. It was a really hot and humid June morning and I had been struggling on the run. He was parked by my car and it didn’t seem weird that he was there for some reason. We went to the harbor, overlooking the city and Lake Michigan, having a normal conversation about life. He got on one knee, teared up and asked me to be his wife – I was completely caught off guard. It was perfect, simple, and exactly like us.
I lost my sister 3 years ago to leukemia. Going in I knew planning and all wedding festivities leading up to the big day would be really hard to celebrate without her there. My family and I have stayed close with all of her best friends, and I invited them to the wedding. With them there, a locket from my best friend to add to my bouquet, and saving a front row seat closest to me with a Cubs hat (the Cubs were the love of her life) it felt as if she was there too. We didn’t want to do anything over the top to honor her; she is not that type of person. I took photos with all of her best friends, all in Cubs hats, which is a memory I will have forever. Ironically enough the Cubs also won the World Series this year, which doesn’t seem like a coincidence to me!
When planning the wedding I wanted to focus on simple and elegant. I did not care what type the flowers were included as long as they were pale pink with greens mixed in. The wedding was all tied together with my dad’s speech; it was so memorable and special. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Somehow he balanced tears and laughter in a way I did not think was possible. I was so proud of him.
