From The Bride:
“Allen and I met in 2006 through our job at Copps grocery store. I worked in the floral department which just happened to overlook the produce department where Allen worked. We decided to go on a few dates in 2006, but being 21 years old was just too much fun for one of us and sadly the produce boy stopped calling the floral girl for any more dates. We fell out of touch and never ran into each other, even while living very close to one another in Madison.
That was until August 28, 2015, almost ten years to the day we went on our first date. I had plans with my sister and friends to attend the Middleton Good Neighbor festival but it was a complete rain out. So, we instead grabbed dinner at Nitty Gritty in Middleton. There, Allen and I literally walked right into each other! So much had changed in our lives, yet it felt like no time had passed at all when we started to catch up. Allen texted me the next day to try our “first” date one more time!
Allen and I started ring shopping together around Christmas of 2016. It did not take long for me to fall in love with a gorgeous ring! Allen and I love to plan things and he knows I am not big on surprises, so he let me know that February 25th, 2017 would be engagement day! That day, he took me on a journey throughout Madison of all of the places that were special in our relationship throughout the years. This included the Comedy Club on State Street where we had out first date in 2006 and our now favorite coffee shop where we had our first date in 2015. Of course, we had to stop at Copps grocery store and Nitty Gritty where our journey had begun.
At every stop, I could just feel the perfect moment coming on where he was going to propose but it didn’t happen! Allen told me he had to stop home before we went to our last location. Little did I know when I walked into our apartment, Allen got down on one knee and told me he could not think of a more perfect place to propose than the home we shared together. He then rushed me out the door to a gathering with all of our friends and family!
Allen and I complement each other so well. We work together as a team and have very similar values and goals. We have open and honest communication with one another and trust each other immensely. We challenge and inspire one another and cannot wait to own our first home and start a family one day. One of the most special things about wedding planning for me was sharing in the process with Allen. He was so involved with our wedding, carefully and thoughtfully planning each detail and attending each planning meeting with me. He truly listened to what was important to me, ensuring that each detail was present in our day.
The planning process went smoothly and was so much fun! I loved my time being engaged and it assured me that Allen and I could work together and solve problems and were ready for married life! Some of the most special parts of our wedding day came from my dad, who unfortunately passed away in 2014. I wore a piece of his favorite shirt in my dress and danced with Allen for the father/daughter dance to my parent’s love song. But the most special part of the day was the weather. I had been nervously watching the weather all week and needless to say it wasn’t looking good, especially for an outdoor ceremony. All throughout the morning of our wedding day, it was cloudy, dreary and lightly raining. Allen kept assuring me that my dad would not let the rain ruin our day. I will never forget walking out to see Allen for our first look and realizing that it was no longer raining but absolutely gorgeous outside, complete with the blue skies and puffy clouds I had always wanted. I knew my dad was there with us that day.
Allen and I were also passionate about planning details that were uniquely us and throwing a party that was truly an unforgettable experience for our family, wedding party and guests. I fell in love with planning all the details, including designing our paper goods, table numbers and floral arrangements with the help of some of the most amazing vendors! Our florist was a former coworker of ours from when Allen and I met and she was able to bring my floral vision to life, creating the romantic and elegant feel I had dreamed of. We did a “first look” of our reception space and it is a moment we both loved!
To see all of our hard work come to life was an amazing experience! Allen and I also filled our day with personal moments such as writing our own vows. This was one of my favorite moments in the day as our guests were moved to tears and we even had some applause! We also loved treating our family and wedding party to a special toast before we all walked down the aisle to remind them how much they are loved and what a special part they have all played in our story. It was truly the most magical day of our lives!”
